Now you have. Actually a tidy little package. I still cant see a damn thing wrong in there so I have to clean it up and test it, but I like some of the details, especially the brush assembly. Still !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , but screw it, it goes in my automatic 505 so I cant even push start the thing

big chunky motherfuckers too. All the wiring checks out, what in the fuck?!? In cleaning mode now but it is a simple motor. Nothing was jammed, nothing looks amiss. Unless there was some shit stuck under one of the brushes that I just released out of there. Pretty dirty in there for a unit that looked sealed up well, and it isnt chunks of metal, just oily mess

That’s the commutator, where the brushes contact the armature.

Shot you an email, in case you didn’t see it yet.

GM type starter, if that gives you hope!

It almost has to have been rebrushed at some point, they’re too nice for as much debris is in there. I guess it could have an open in the windings somewhere, that’d be hard catch visually, if unusual. Curious if it’ll bench ok after a good cleaning, best case.

I got little more jump on it when I put it back together, but I am going to clean the commutator 100% tomorrow and see if that does the trick. It does move now, just not like it should to fire the old girl off.

Some movement is better than none, that’s a start. Good luck tomorrow, but fuck that thing for now, it’s well past Beer:30 so cheers.

Yes I have, same as on the DeLorean. There is a shop near me that has rebuilt several of them before. Very heavy compared to the cross reference Eagle starter I put on the car.

I have heard about the eagle starter, supposed to be pretty robust. I will have to do some research and see if the PRV and XN6 run the same unit

If the eagle starter fits, I highly recommend it. It is smaller, lighter and uses lets amperage to turn over. You can also pick it up from most of the major auto part chains (I got mine at Autozone) with a warranty.

did the Paris one that came out of the DMC have 2 bolts or 3? Mine has only 2 but the pattern between the 2 looks like it might work

It is a 3 bolt setup. I can take pictures of the it when I get home later if you like. I have my old Paris-Rhone all cleaned up in case the eagle one fails.

Use a section of a hacksaw blade to get in between the segments on the commutator. Polish it after with fine emery cloth. Not sand paper. You need about a 1/16 inch minimum clean gap between segments.

yeah I did that too, it is running again finally, just doesnt have enough juice to turn the car over. Ill get a rebuilt in this week then park this one at the rebuild shop for a spare.

Probably a bad field coil. Oh well, you did what you could. Good thing starters are not too expensive.
